Dear parents,
I’m sure all of you enjoyed the winter break and the time spent with family and friends. Hopefully you have come back full of new energy for the coming term.
We started out our new unit “They Made A Difference: Significant People” with an exciting and educational visit from one of our parents - Patrick Thoresen. It was a great afternoon where students enjoyed hearing about his life as a professional hockey player and the lessons he has learned along the way. Students were also challenged to try to recognize some significant people from around the world in one of our introductory activities while students presented significant people from their home countries. We have sent out information about the new unit including what the assessable goal is and how to develop from one level to the next. Hopefully you have had a chance to look at it and discuss it with your child.
The third graders will in the coming weeks have a chance to learn more about a local significant person through a trip to the Nobel museum. 3c will go on the afternoon of February 3rd and 3v on the 10th of February. We will be leaving after lunch and plan on returning to school before 3 p.m. Students will be given a tour of the museum and will get to experience what being a scientist is like through some fun activities. If you would like to find out more about the museum, here is a link to their website: http://www.nobelmuseum.se/ To 3v parents, if anyone is interested in accompanying the class on the 10th please let Mr Gordon know.
Finally, this past week the school pulled together to raise money for the Nepal Project with Fit for Nepal! The week was a great success raising over 28,000 kronor! 3rd grade did their bit with a huge campaign to get Mr Gordon creamed - which paid off! Thank you to all parents that gave up their time to help out.
