Newsletter Week 6

Dear 3rd grade parents:

In IPC we have continued working on our unit Significant People. We used an App called Popplet to gather all the knowledge we know about Significant people, and shared the information with each other. We are also working on a history skill: to be able to give some reasons for particular events and changes. The rubric below was introduced to our students this week and we have discussed cause and effect/consequence.

I’m getting used to it:

I can come up with an idea about why something happened or changed. My ideas are much better when the teacher gives me help or when I can talk to my friends.

I’m getting better:

I can come up with lots of different ideas about why something happened or changed. Not all of my ideas are good ones, but lots of them are possible reasons.

I’m really getting it:

I can come up with lots of ideas about why something happened or changed. I am happy doing this without help from my teacher or other children. My answers are usually good ones and my teacher and friends can't think of any other better examples.

Last week the PTA organised Fit for Nepal and students, teachers and parents were active during the week. Thank you parents for helping our school support our project in Nepal by sponsoring these activities for your children. All these activities are a great way to help our children understand the idea of fundraising.

One of the skills we develop in our school is International Mindedness and to enhance this skill we have created a Global Passport in class. Every week for homework, students research a country that is represented in our classroom. In IT, for the first few minutes of the class they listen or read news from the country of the week and in Crafts on Wednesdays we do a craft from that country. If you have any tips of what we could do for crafts, we are open to suggestions!!

On February 12th we have our Primary Winter Sports Day. You will have received the information about the dancing first and the wall climbing after. Make sure your child has the appropriate clothes as well as a healthy lunch and snacks. We will be out of school the whole day and will be returning for the usual 3.30 pm

Our 3rd graders have worked so hard towards getting their well deserved Zowie Point Party  and we have set the date for February 17th, the last two lessons will be dedicated to the party. Students are going to vote on what the theme of the party is next week. We will ask children to bring some snacks from home.

Just a quick reminder about birthday invitations. If you are handing out birthday invitations in school, then either the whole class should be invited or all girls/all boys. If you are inviting from home then feel free to invite whom you wish.

Warmest regards,
Ms Cruz, Mrs Kinch and Mrs D'Andrea-Nordin
