We have successfully reached the end of Spring Half Term. Although the beginning of the year can sometimes be hard to handle due to the darkness, 3rd Graders have managed to brighten our weeks with an on-going enthusiasm to learn and excitement to participate in any activity we present to them.
Last week, we celebrated Sports Day, Students enjoyed a Hip-Hop and a Break Dance class in a Dance Studio with professional instructors. They were all brilliant. The two classes showed great listening skills and they did genuinely well coordinating all the steps together, they all looked so cool when the music was on and danced the choreography they learnt. Afterwards we travelled to Telefonplan and there we went to the Climbing Center, here again students were so well behaved and extremely courageous. Some children showed an amazing ability to climb whereas some others had never tried this activity before and they did an unbelievable effort to climb up those high walls. Well done each of you. Thank you to all the parents that came along and helped. Your support and help are very much appreciated.
On Tuesday, 3rd Graders proudly celebrated a great achievement. They have all worked so hard to get from A to Z. Students work collectively to earn points. These points are earned by hard work, excellent behaviour and outstanding creativity in all learning areas. They really enjoyed themselves at their ZOWIE PARTY. Now, let's start all over again: Teachers Are Watching!
In IPC we started assessing the History skill that students are learning to apply when showing their understanding of the knowledge they are gathering in our current unit. They are learning to be able to give reasons for particular events and changes. They started off by completing activities of cause and effect of their own experiences. Students are beginning to realise that there are either reasons or causes that lead to particular events. Making these connections help students to grasp what makes history. 3rd Graders have been placing the significant people they are studying on a timeline in a chronological order. They are now looking into Gandhi's timeline and studying important events in his life, consequently students have to explain what reasons led Gandhi to make such changes in History. To help your child mastering this skill we advise you to:
*Help your child to think of lots things that have happened in the last week and try to list the reasons why they happened. (Three or four reasons should be enough)
*When you hear/read the news together. Your child can share/discuss reasons why something has happened.
In Maths, we are developing various strategies to multiply several digits by several digits and applying these methods into real life word problems. In order to continue developing the students's understanding of multiplication we encourage students to learn and practice their times tables. After the break Ms Cruz' group will be tested on this topic. Please help your child to complete the multiplication booklet they are bringing home. Many thanks.
In Language, our goal is to teach and give our students the possibility to write a variety of genres. They are learning to either persuade, inform, entertain or express. 3rd Grade writers are learning to write for a purpose, to plan, revise and review their writing to create a final product which they proudly publish and present in various ways. So far students have written: Poems, letters, stories and persuasive paragraphs. When we come back students are going to be assessed on how to retell a number of events that have happened to them.
Today, we had our Class Assembly, 4th graders presented our New Learner Profile Word which is "Communicators". Awards were given to "Knowledgeable" students in 3C Yurie and Vrishank and in 3V to Sophie and Rafael.
Grade 3 teachers wish all our families a very happy holidays.
Best wishes,
Mrs Kinch, Ms Cruz and Mrs D'Andrea Nordin
