Newsletter week 10, 2016

Dear parents,

We have had a great week back after Sports Break and everyone is quickly back into the swing of things. We are now approaching the end of our current IPC unit 'They Made a Difference'. Mr Rhodes came into 3rd grade this week and showed the students how to use the app Aurasma which we will use for our Exit Point for the unit. We would like to invite parents to 'drop in' to this exhibition of learning which we expect to take place between 2pm and 3.15pm on March 21st in the auditorium. We will confirm this information by email later next week.

In Math we are finishing up our Multiplication and Division unit and will soon be heading towards Fractions & Decimals. Students have worked hard to master their times tables facts which is an essential skill they will use in the coming years.

In Language, both classes are continuing to work on their studies of a Roald Dahl book. Many students have been inspired to read other works by Dahl in their free time.

Some other events over the past weeks have included an exciting Winter Sports Day at an indoor climbing centre and an excursion to the Nobel museum.

During Anti-bullying week before the break, all students engaged in discussions and activities related to bullying and many took part in an Anti-bullying poster contest. Classes worked together to decorate their classroom doors with an Anti-bullying message. 3v's display earned them a soon to be organised Pizza party.

Next week we look forward to conferences with parents where the children will get a chance to share some of their learning and work they are proud of.

The next few weeks promise to be very busy for 3rd grade. We will be hosting the Spring Hat Parade on the 24th of March. Students should create a colorful/spring-themed/crazy hat to wear on this half-day before the break.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please let us know if your child will not be in school that day to take part in the Hat Parade.

3rd grade will also be presenting the next Learner Profile word, Open-minded, at the Primary assembly on the 8th of April after Spring Break.

Have a great weekend!

Mr Gordon, Mrs Nilsson & Miss Kristy
