Newsletter Week 19, 2016

Dear 3rd grade parents,

It has been a busy last few weeks and it's going to get even busier! We are on the home stretch of this academic year and it has been exciting to see how far the students have come since August. We are now halfway through our final IPC unit, Saving the World: Rainforests. Students have so far learned about the layers of the rainforest, animals and plants through various research assignments.

In Math we have finished learning about Fractions and Decimals and are currently learning all about Data, through working with various graphs, and Probability. Soon we will go on to Geometry. Any time we have left over at the end of term we can use to review concepts and skills we have covered throughout the year and try to deepen the students' understanding of what they have learned.

This week we tested the students' reading abilities with the DRA test which helps to keep track of student progress and identify strengths and any weaknesses to work on.

On June 8, 3rd grade will all go on an excursion to the Butterfly House in Hagaparken as part of the whole school outing. This will also double nicely as an Exit point to our Rainforest unit.

Yesterday, at the IPC Arts Showcase, many of the 3rd grade students showed off their musical skills in an excellent performance which was a testament to all the hard work they have put into practising their various instruments.

At this morning's Primary assembly, certificates were awarded to students who have demonstrated Open-mindedness. Claudia and Kai received the awards in 3v as well as Embla, Khushi and Alma in 3c. In April, the students who received awards for being Knowledgeable were Erik, Mihai, Mark, Aliyan and Tara.

Coming up:

17 May: Student half-day (finish at 12.45)
18 May: Primary Sports Day (wear sunscreen!)
6 June: National holiday - no school
8 June: Butterfly House
10 June: End of term for students (finish at 12.00)

Have a nice weekend,

Mr Gordon, Mrs Nilsson & Ms Kristy
