According to 3rd Grade being open-minded is:
"Being able to make mistakes" by Rafael
"Being allowed to change your opinion" by Jikke
"It is not the end of the world if we all have different opinions" by Soham
"Being able to welcome new ideas, cultures, people and being able to be open to new things" by Elliot
"Being able to listen to others" "Accept others" by Luca
"Being able to treat other people with respect" by Elisa
"Being able to understand that there isn't such wrong or right answers" by Robert
Dear parents,
Did you enjoy the quotes above? Our students are very reflective and thoughtful. Last Friday we had an activity to show each other how we could learn to be open-minded.
We listened to a story: Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. After reading the story, 3rd Graders had an open-minded debate to show their understanding. The above quotes are just some of the comments that were shared when we were all sharing and discussing our thoughts.
Welcome and farewell are sometimes frequent themes in our school environment. Both are emotional situations that help us develop our skills to adapt to new things. Last week we welcomed a new student, his name is Vilo, and this week we have sadly said bye-bye to Haruka. We wish them both good luck.
Parents-Students Conferences are great opportunities to get together and talk about our students' learning and social/academic development. This time, these conferences were extra special since our pupils were the ones that proudly led these meetings. They all glowed and they all did their best by welcoming their parents and showing and explaining their work.
Please we would like to emphasize once again that if some of you felt that it was not enough time to talk to us, you are always welcome to rearrange another meeting 'led by you with us'.
Our specialist teachers are also available to discuss our students with you, if you need to talk to them.
In Maths our students are demonstrating an understanding of division by:
*representing and explaining division using equal sharing and equal grouping
*creating and solving problems in context that involve equal sharing and equal grouping
*modelling equal sharing and grouping using concrete and visual representations, and recording the process symbolically
*relating division to repeated subtraction
*relating divison to multiplication
Students are also showing understanding of division with larger numbers and by solving word- problems involving division.
In language, students are learning to write a descriptive text. Below you can find a revision checklist to write a descriptive text and ideas for writing a descriptive text.
Next week:
On Thursday 2nd of April is the last day before our Spring Holidays. Students will be dismissed at 12.45. In the morning we will be celebrating Spring with a "Hat Carnival". Hope you are all enjoying getting ready for the occasion.
3rd Graders will be leading and some of our students will be introducing this assembly.
Many thanks for your support, we wish you all a Happy Spring Break!

Taiki and Lukas playing inside. Lukas wanted to use his smilie faces and he invited Taiki to stay indoors with him. They were so proud of this very tall tower!
